Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in power within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows the region and cautions that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the powerful family could assist the team enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Questers and Schemers groups.

Fans can expect learning which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
